Did Kanye West "cross the line" with this music video?
At a time when women are dumped in swimming pools in Massachusetts and rivers in Maryland, is this video insensitive? I must confess, I don't think so. Apart from playing with female corpses, Jay-z and Kanye West are never actually shown causing their death. My eyes did twitch when Rick Ross was filmed with a chainsaw in his hand. There was a body on a table and he closed the door on the camera (picture shown below). That I think was too much. I am obviously a Kanye West fan so I could be biased.
Did Kanye west use Nicki Minaj, a prominent female rapper, to to make the video less misogynistic?
If you think about it, her part is good but it has nothing to do with the song. She raps about herself and how much money she makes. The way I see it, Kanye West is using the dead bodies to demonstrate unstimulated he is by life and death. A normal person would be disgusted, afraid, or sadden by the corpses but he isn't. He has lost all human emotions, which is why he is a monster. I don't think he is promoting misogyny. My favorite scene was towards the end, when the stone angels started to move. I don't really know what that means.
